Phyllis Trible, a pioneering, and internationally known, feminist biblical scholar, was a leader in rhetorical criticism, leading to the text-based exploration of women and gender in scripture. She believed that careful research into the biblical traditions can serve to address concerns of women today. Trible wrote that the “Women’s Movement errs when it considers the Bible as inconsequential or enslaving.
