“Feminism: Reexamining the Vision”

1981
Carter Heyward, assistant professor of theology at Episcopal Divinity School, was one of eleven women “irregularly ordained” in the Episcopal Church in 1974. In her talk, she stressed that women must make their own decisions about difficult moral questions, rather than have the answers preordained by a paternalist society. Heyward noted that women have often internalized “a woman’s place” as defined by patriarchy, and we must root out these attitudes.
