Mary Ann Tolbert asked: “Is it possible to so reformulate the place of the Bible in Christian thought as to retain its valuable vision of liberation, justice, peace, and mercy but remove its public role as legitimate in a discourse of abusive authority, power, and control? How could the Bible and the communities it validates be reconstituted for justice, love, and respect for difference in our present time and historical context?”
