Bernice Johnson Reagon, a member of the original SNCC Freedom Singers, is a specialist in the black oral tradition, black performing arts, and American protest traditions. The founder of Sweet Honey in the Rock and director of the National Museum of American History’s program in black American culture, Reagon spoke passionately about recalling the words of black women in creating her art.
