Women Students at Divinity School Organize

While the University’s Women’s Center was not founded until 1978, the Divinity School instituted the Task Force on Women in 1973 to respond to the needs of women students. This task force sponsored the first Antoinette Brown Lecture and created the Office of Women's Concerns (OWC). The OWC planned Women's Emphasis Week in 1975, with the Antoinette Brown Lecture as the highlight. These lectures were thought to be the only student-led lecture series in the United States. Not all male students were supportive, and some felt “left out,” nonetheless the women students met together at potlucks and retreats to encourage each other.
