Vanderbilt yearbooks provide some of the best photographs of the Cherokee and Chickasaw students during their time at Vanderbilt. While the Comet did not run photographs in the 1880s when William Wirt Hastings and William Pressley Thompson were students, the 1890s editions include many class and team photographs and composites. Students also sat for individual and group portraits at Nashville photography studios. The Oklahoma Historical Society and Tennessee State Library and Archives have multiple images of Vanderbilt’s indigenous students, artfully posing in formal attire.
