Soul of the Preacher

In 1984, the “Afro House” was renamed “The Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center”. It serves as a pan-African diasporic oasis for students, alumni, faculty, and staff. While a Simmie Knox portrait of this august figure hangs in Vanderbilt’s Kirkland Hall, the BCC houses this intimate portrait.
