Out of Kentucky Kitchens

Marion Flexner
Franklin Watts
1949
Marion Flexner (1900-1992), the mother of Vanderbilt emeritus professor John Flexner, was a member of a prominent Louisville family. She wrote several cookbooks translating distinctive Kentucky recipes into a middle-class, post-World War 2 sensibility. Duncan Hines, who wrote the foreword, was a prominent and influential food writer from Kentucky. Hines founded a food company and later licensed his name and image for a cake mix that still bears that name.
