The Good Housekeeper

Sarah J. Hale
Weeks and Jordan
1839
Sarah J. Hale (1788-1879) was an influential early American novelist and magazine editor. As a promoter of national American identity, Hale led the movement to establish Thanksgiving as a national holiday. This cookbook reflects that American character, with native North American ingredients and pearlash used as a leavener.
