The Returner, Lyrics, Set Lists, and the Voice of Change
Allison Russell’s second solo studio album The Returner (September 2023) received great recognition from the Recording Academy and was nominated for four Grammy’s. Russell won a Grammy Award for Best American Roots Performance for “Eve was Black” a track from The Returner album. This exhibit and The Allison Russell Papers include a lyric book from The Returner album listening party, lyric sheets both handwritten and typescript with handwritten notes of impactful songs recorded by the artist “You’re Not Alone” and “Tennessee Rise.” The exhibit also documents Allison Russell as an activist, specifically for the LGBTQ+ community, receiving the Voice of Change Award from the Tennessee Pride Chamber in June 2023.
