Commissioned Works

The Blair school of Music and esteemed faculty ensembles The Blair String Quartet and The Blakemore Trio commissioned works in support of The Blair Commissions: Music for the 21st Century Project. The project served to promote the composition of outstanding works by the world’s leading composers, and to invite the attention of those composers – and audiences around the country – to the excellent ensembles and faculty members of Vanderbilt University. With generous support from the James Stephen Turner Family Foundation, "Gates of Silence" by Susan Botti premiered February 19, 2010, and "Images from a Closed Ward" (2010) by Michael Hersch premiered February 17, 2012.
