Michael Alec Rose is a Professor of Composition at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. His compositions, recordings, and publications are featured here and original manuscripts of his work. Michael Alec Rose is a composer of symphonic, chamber, piano, vocal, wind ensemble, theater, and ballet music. His opera "Lolly Willowes" was premiered in 2019, supported by a major grant from Houston Arts Alliance. In June 2022, "A Million Alien Gospels" was given five sold-out performances by Ventana Ballet and Austin Camerata. From 2005 to 2016, Rose co-directed an International Exchange Program between Vanderbilt University (where he serves as Professor of Composition) and the Royal Academy of Music, London. The collaboration has inspired many new compositions for violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved, most recently in cooperation with institutions such the Metropolitan Museum, the Library of Congress, and the Ashmolean Museum (Oxford, U.K.) Two CD albums of the Rose/Sheppard Skærved catalogue are available on Toccata Records and Divine Arts Recordings.
