Movement III. Time Poem by Stan Link

“Time Poem,” is a meditation on the interplay of three distinct “flavors” of time. The first is clock time, measured in objective units like hours and seconds. The second is our psychological perception of time—how long or short or slow or fast it feels to us. The third is historical time— the sequence of events that make up the narrative of a human story whether individually, locally, or globally. “Time Poem” synthesizes these facets into a single experience. Though it won’t feel or sound like it, the whole movement has the exact same constant eighth note pulse throughout its duration. Stan Link is an Associate Professor of Composition, Philosophy and Analysis of Music, teaching interdisciplinary courses on subjects ranging from the film soundtrack to disability and art. Musical nerds, silence, and sociopaths have been the center of his scholarly work. His works included here range from musical compositions, book chapters, articles, and recordings.
