Ida B. Wells was an African American journalist, educator, and civil rights activist.  Wells was one of the first to systematically document the practice of lynching in the United States. On Lynchings collects several of her best-known works on this topic which use statistics, personal accounts, and investigative journalism to reveal the extent of lynching as a tool of racial terror.  Wells used her writing to advocate for justice and equality and helped turn public opinion against lynching.   Her tireless efforts laid the groundwork for future civil rights activism and continue to inspire contemporary movements for social change and justice.
