Beth Maczka’s Curator Talk
Dr. Ellen Armour, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Chair and Professor of Feminist Theology, highlighted the evolution of Beth Maczka’s work from a previous exhibit for her dual certificates in Religion, Art and Contemporary Culture, and Religion, Gender, and Sexuality. Dr. Bogdanovic, Associate Professor of History of Art and Architecture, discussed the evolution of Maczka’s research on sarcophagi and the significance of identifying underrepresented figures in scripture. Beth Maczka highlighted how her research informed the paintings she commissioned with Lázaro Ceballos Fernández, and how those images came to life.
The video recording of the exhibit opening lecture is offered in partnership with Vanderbilt Divinity School. The video may also be viewed on the Divinity School’s YouTube channel.
