Proclama

The proclamation called for unity and support of Venezuela’s liberator, Simón BolÔö£┬ívar. BolÔö£┬ívar was instrumental in the independence movements from Spain of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia and was acting as President of Gran Colombia at the time of this proclama (1827). The author, Carlos Castelli, was an Italian-born patriot who served with Emperor Napoleon until his defeat at Waterloo (1815). That same year he traveled to Haiti to meet BolÔö£┬ívar and fought at his side to gain Venezuela’s independence from Spain.
