Mary “Polly” Smith Donelson (1781-1859) of Sumner County, Tennessee, wrote a letter to her sister Elizabeth Smith McKain (1798-1852), in which she reported the family’s good health and a gathering she attended. She describes the religious fervor sweeping the area and the hope that it is unifying the country. Polly married Samuel Donelson in 1796 in Davidson County, Tennessee and died in Hendersonville, Tennessee in 1859.
