This page from Daniel Montgomery’s account book lists bolts of cambric, calico, silk, buttons, lace, and other household items purchased from Robert W. Greene in 1819 in Sumner County, Tennessee. One can deduce from the cloth, buttons, needles, and lace that clothing was being made for the Montgomery family.

Robert W. Greene (1795-1864) was a merchant in the Nashville vicinity. In 1819, he married Matilda Porter, the daughter of Alexander James Porter, a wealthy Nashville merchant. He died in 1864 at the plantation of his son-in-law, James Trooper Armstrong, near Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
