Vanderbilt, Rah, Rah!

circa 1903
Vanderbilt University Special Collections
This postcard, published in 1903 by Raphael Tuck & Sons, is one of a series of college themed postcards created by F. Earl Christy that depicts women as a symbol of several universities. At the time of this postcard’s publication, Vanderbilt was advertised as a school intended for the education of young men; Vanderbilt had not yet granted women official student status. The woman on the postcard proves significant as her presence reflects the strong and growing female presence on Vanderbilt’s campus at the turn of the twentieth century.
