Known for his famous phrase, “You’ll have to git out-er here boys”, Captain James Alley was a larger-than-life figure who served at Vanderbilt as a one-man police force from 1886 to 1927. In 1921, the Vanderbilt baseball team celebrated “Cap Alley Day” to start off their season, attesting to his popularity on campus.
