“Vanderbilt University Main Building Destroyed”
Nashville, TN: n.p., 1905
Kirkland Hall Subject File
Vanderbilt University Special Collections
This partial 1905 newspaper clipping describes the incredible burden the building’s loss placed on the university. The insurance on the building covered less than half of the value of the structure and contents. In addition to the campus library, the building also held multiple classrooms and dorm rooms for both students and faculty. Despite the extent of the loss, instruction continued uninterrupted on the following day by moving classroom space to other buildings on campus.
