Dr. Bruce Ryburn Payne, President of George Peabody College for Teachers

Guided by 20th century educational theorists such as Paul Monroe and John Dewey, President Bruce Ryburn Payne was considered a leading educational pragmatist. When hired in 1911, Payne was tasked with the highly ambitious task of raising $1.5 million in funds and overseeing the creation of a new campus.
