[Letter from Elizabeth Spencer to David McDowell]

Elizabeth Spencer, a Southerner who ended up in Canada, completed her MA in English at Vanderbilt in 1943. In this letter, she remembers “a pleasant young man [she] met at Vanderbilt some years ago.” She also asks her editor, David McDowell, for a meeting in New York, though she tells him not to “feel obligated” as she “know[s] there’s some kind of rule about writers not seeing editors.”
