Madame Tussaud’s Memoirs and Reminiscences of France

Tussaud, Marie, 1761-1850
1838
Nettie Hale Rand Collection of Fine Bindings and Printing, DC146 .T9 A34 1838, Vanderbilt University Special Collections

This piece serves as a testament to how beautifully ornate book bindings can truly be. The outside of this book is decorated with gemstones,  from rubies and topazes to emeralds, opals, and pearls, that dazzle the viewers.  Most impressive is the doublure featured prominently on the front cover, portraying a hand-painted portrait of Marie Tussaud on ivory.
