Chirurgischer Atlas
Victor Von Bruns (1812-1883) was born in Helmstedt, Germany, and was a leading figure in the development of plastic and reconstructive surgery, particularly in relation to the head and face. He is perhaps best known for his usage and promotion of absorbent cotton dressings, which became the standard in modern antiseptic surgery. His surgical atlas contains detailed illustrations of the injuries and deformities to the head and face, and the usage of instruments – like the trephine – in their treatment and management. This work, like several items in this exhibit, was donated to the History of Medicine Collections by Dr. Arthur Lyons.
