Astrologers found mystical meaning in iconic images.  Here, a man in a divided square is surrounded by occult symbols including a snake (symbolizing the dichotomy between good and evil), the seven-section staff (the seven sacred centers of the human spine), an eye (the spiritual awakening of the practitioner), and shield (possibly representing protection from evil influences).
