Of Follfoot/or Asarabacca
Of the two illustrations corresponding to Turner’s entries on “Folfoot” or “Asarabacca,” the top image is an ornate initial letter “A”; its presence may attest to the ambient notion of “horror vacui,” an aesthetic aversion to blank space, and a conscious effort to make this didactic text nevertheless beautiful. However, it could also be an organizational necessity to fill the page or may exist to draw attention to this particular entry.
