In spring 2012 Dean Connie Dowell established the first library fellowship, with a little bit of extra funding and a lot of hope. Since then, 230 students have completed library fellowships, now the Buchanan Library Fellowship Program, named in honor of benefactors Richard and Poppy Buchanan. Dr. Buchanan, a former library student worker himself, felt that a deep connection to libraries provides support to students throughout their lives; the couple endowed the program to give others the opportunities Richard had at Vanderbilt. The Buchanan Library Fellowship introduces students to desirable skills and potential career paths in museum curatorship, technology, and information literacy. A Decade of Library Fellows highlights just a few of the exhibitions curated by our student fellows over the last 10 years. Our librarian mentors would tell you that having the chance to work closely with these amazing students is a remarkable gift.
