What Maisie Knew

When Doubleday & Company launched a new imprint called Doubleday Anchor in the early 1950s, a fellow Harvard alumnus reached out to Gorey for his assistance with illustrating the covers of the literary publications.  Gorey continued his commercial illustration work until the mid-1960s when he branched out into freelance work.
