“Coal machine”

A coal loader fills the trolley in an area with extremely low ceilings, causing each miner to work on his knees or sit on the floor in this underground mine near the Sequatchie Valley. Corn writes that while he was inside the mine, “they set off a dynamite charge as they had many times before…the blast shakes your very soul. The miners were friendly and helpful and would laugh at me when they saw me cringe at the explosion.”
