Modern Papermakers

Claire Van Vliet is a paper artist, a papermaker, and a book artist who has been widely honored for her work and for the founding of the Janus Press. Comprehensive collections of her work are held by Vanderbilt University Library and the Library of Congress.

Beverly Plummer is a modern papermaker and book artist based in Nashville, Tennessee. She has worked with new and unique techniques and plant fibers to create papers that reflect her artistic and innovative approach to papermaking. Her book arts include a collaboration with composer John Cage in a new interpretation of the ancient Chinese book of changes, the I Ching.

Peter and Donna Thomas are itinerant book artists and papermakers based in Santa Cruz, California. They have travelled the globe to learn about the ancient art of making paper by hand and to incorporate what they have learned into their artists’ books. Peter often acknowledges his debt to Dard Hunter.
