Amman, Jost
Kirkwood [Mo.]: The Printery
1568
Papermaking by hand is a centuries old craft first practiced in China as early as 100 B.C.E. It is a labor intensive process which includes macerating linen and cotton rags and the strenuous efforts of the papermaking team to form sheets of paper which have varying, mulitple uses. Jost Amman's 16th century illustrations for A True Depiction of All Manner of the Book Arts are iconic and ubiquitous images in the history of papermaking. '
