[Letter from Frank Vanderbilt to Holland McTyeire]
In this letter to Bishop McTyeire, Frank Vanderbilt describes her suggestion to Cornelius that, as Founder’s Day celebrates his birthday, he should be the one to finance the Founder’s Medal. Despite the fact that the fund for the Founder’s Medal was her idea, Frank writes McTyeire that he “must treat it of course as [Cornelius’] suggestion.” This detail highlights the extent to which Frank’s involvement fell outside of typical roles expected of women at the time, and thus needed to be obscured.
