Dr. Ernest Goodpasture

Dr. Goodpasture served as chair of Vanderbilt’s Department of Pathology from 1925-1955 and dean of the Medical School from 1945-1950. During his tenure, Dr. Goodpasture and his research team developed a new method of inoculating chicken embryos with viruses, leading to the mass development of vaccines for many diseases, including influenza, yellow fever, and smallpox.
