Martin Faber, the story of a criminal: and other tales pp. 6

William Gilmore Simms
University of Nashville Collection, Vanderbilt University Special Collections

In addition to the dedication, Simms included this sonnet to his daughter. Simms’s literary life forced him to travel often, and while he made connections with popular authors of the days, such as William Cullen Bryant and Timothy Flint, he clearly missed his daughter while away from her.
