As popular as his contemporary and friend Edgar Allen Poe, Simms was a prolific writer and Martin Faber was one of his popular novels. Simms chose to dedicate the work to his then-ten-year-old daughter, Anna August Singleton, an odd dedication for a story about the brutal murder of a woman.
