In this excerpt from Stella Vaughn’s “Vanderbilt Days” essay, she recounts how the buildings of West Side Row were built on the site of the university’s cemetery. R. T. Nabors, the first chaplain at Vanderbilt, was the only one interred in the cemetery. His body was exhumed and moved before construction began.
