This photograph is from an album full of casual photos of members of the Department of Pathology in and out of the office. Here, two laboratory technicians, Katherine Anderson and Mae Gallivan, are shown at the lab bench. Katherine Anderson earned her PhD in bacteriology from Vanderbilt in 1940. After a short but prolific research career, she resigned from Vanderbilt in 1945 and dedicated her life to ornithology, native Tennessee plants and wildflowers, and other environmental causes. Ms. Anderson and Ernest Goodpasture married in 1945.
