Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) was born in Argentina and raised in New York until his later teens. Piazzolla’s tangos are often labeled “avant garde.” He composed a huge body of works—tangos, concertos, operas—that are still played around the world. His skill with the bandoneón continues to amaze new listeners.
