The 19th-century Afro-Cuban violinist, José White Lafitte, is celebrated in Vigía’s two-volume boxed set with a biography and a volume of his compositions for violin and concerto. His violin was the Stradavari 1737 “Swansong.” His habanera, La Bella Cubana, has been recorded often and evokes the sounds of 19th-century Cuba.
