In 1974, P.G. Wodehouse replied to a letter from Mr. Morrissey to confirm, to his knowledge, that there was no formal society devoted to the study of his works.  By 1980, a U.S. based society was formed with the goal of keeping his works alive and to promote the reading of these works in schools, colleges, and through library lending.  With a base of 30 members in 1980, the society has grown to over 600 members with affiliate chapters across the United States and around the world.
