Wodehouse Adaptations
Many of the works of P.G. Wodehouse have been adapted into various films, radio programs, and television shows. The earliest adaptations included two silent films, “A Gentleman of Leisure” (1915) and “Piccadilly Jim” (1919). The 1930s saw two films based on the characters of Jeeves and Wooster. Modern television adaptations since 1970 have featured the Wodehouse Playhouse with actors John Alderton and Pauline Collins; a Jeeves and Wooster series featuring actors Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry; and the Blandings series with actors Timothy Spall and Jennifer Saunders. The most successful productions have taken special care to translate Wodehouse’s witty prose from text to screen and adapted scenarios for modern cultural settings.
