“Madre mia,” a well-known poem in Cuba, is about the author’s separation from her mother who left to live in the United States and the writer’s longing to bring her home to sunny Cuba. The book has a pocket for the letter to her mother with a view of palm trees from the terrace of her home. Her chair awaits.
The increasing complexity of these artists’ books is evident in the many elaborate fold outs and cutouts and hand colored flowers. It is hard to imagine creating 200 copies of this handmade book!
